Program Overview

Major ID: XXXC

Program Start Dates: Fall, Spring

The Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Technology Certificate program equips students and professionals with the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to work confidently with advanced vehicle technologies. Through practical training in high-voltage safety, diagnostics, and repair, students build the technical competence and confidence required to service hybrid and electric vehicles safely and effectively. The curriculum emphasizes real-world applications, industry-standard procedures, and emerging technologies such as Adaptive Driver Assist Systems (ADAS), ensuring graduates are prepared for the evolving automotive landscape. This certificate is for post-diploma or associates degree or technicians with equivalent work experience. Students should have good mechanical aptitude, be in good physical condition and have the ability to get along with others. Students also need to be able to read and process technical information.

Career Opportunities

Most US vehicle manufacturers offer several models of hybrid and electric vehicles with advanced technology.

Opportunities are expected to be plentiful for automotive technicians with technical training according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

The department also states that the growing complexity of automotive technology, such as the use of electronic and emissions control equipment, increasingly necessitates that cars be serviced by professionals.

The auto technician may work in a dealership garage, an independent garage, or as a specialist. Opportunities exist for a technician to become a shop service salesperson, new car dealership service manager, or shop owner.

Program Outcomes

  1. Practice elements of ASE xEV1, xEV2, L3- Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle Specialist and L4-Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Specialist Certifications in preparation for industry exams.
  2. Diagnose problems in Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Systems using testing equipment and specifications for servicing automobiles.
  3. Prepare for employment as Automotive Service Technicians.
