Career Opportunities
The job outlook is good for hair technicians. Increasing population, incomes, and demand for cosmetology services will stimulate job growth. In addition, numerous job openings will stem from rapid turnover in salons and the large size of the occupation. The rapid growth of nail salons and full-service spas will generate numerous job openings for hair technicians skilled in hair care services.
After hair technician students complete 900 hours of skills and theory training and pass the written exam given through the State designated testing service and skills certification, they are eligible for licensure through the Minnesota Board of Cosmetologist Examiners. Hair technicians work in a variety of settings including beauty salons and full service spas.
