This program is designed to equip students with the foundational knowledge required for a successful career in actuarial science, as well as prepare them for further studies in the field. Actuaries utilize a strong background in mathematics, statistics, and economics to measure and manage risk.

Career Opportunities

Upon completion of the Pre-Actuary Science AS degree, students will have developed strong critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, computational, and analytical skills. Students will be prepared to continue to a bachelor’s degree in actuarial sciences as well as directly to employment. Typical employment would include insurance companies, financial institutions, and government agencies.

Program Outcomes

Communicate mathematical and statistical concepts using appropriate terminology and notation.
Demonstrate proficiency solving a variety application problems in mathematics and statistics.
Demonstrate proficiency using technology to investigate problems and promote understanding.
Demonstrate the ability to complete the first two actuarial examinations, namely Exam FM (Financial
Mathematics) and Exam P (Probability).

Students entering this program must meet the following minimum program entry requirements:

Reading: Score of 250+ or grade of “C” or better in READ 0722 or READ 0724 or EAPP 0900

Writing: Score of 250+ or grade of “C” or better in ENGL 0922 or EAPP 0900

Adv. Algebra & Functions: Score of 250+ or grade of “C” or better in MATH 0920

Assessment Results and Prerequisites: Students admitted into Saint Paul College programs may need to complete additional courses based on assessment results and course prerequisite requirements. Certain MATH, READ, and ENGL courses have additional prerequisites.
