This program is designed to equip students with the foundational knowledge required for a successful career in actuarial science, as well as prepare them for further studies in the field. Actuaries utilize a strong background in mathematics, statistics, and economics to measure and manage risk.
Career Opportunities
Upon completion of the Pre-Actuary Science AS degree, students will have developed strong critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, computational, and analytical skills. Students will be prepared to continue to a bachelor’s degree in actuarial sciences as well as directly to employment. Typical employment would include insurance companies, financial institutions, and government agencies.
Program Outcomes
- Communicate mathematical and statistical concepts using appropriate terminology and notation.
- Demonstrate proficiency solving a variety application problems in mathematics and statistics.
- Demonstrate proficiency using technology to investigate problems and promote understanding.
- Demonstrate the ability to complete the first two actuarial examinations, namely Exam FM (Financial
Mathematics) and Exam P (Probability).
