MEDS 2434 - Legal and Ethical Aspects of Health Information

An introduction to the legal and ethical issues that are relevant to health information. The court system and legislative process, as well as legal vocabulary will be communicated. Topics to be discussed include confidentiality, release of information, retention guidelines, patient rights and advocacy, advanced directives, and ethics. The new HIPAA guidelines will also be reviewed. Must earn a grade of “C” or better in this course to proceed. 2C/2/0/0
