SOCI 1710 - Introduction to Sociology 4 Credits
This course introduces students to sociology: the systematic study of human interaction and society. Major theoretical perspectives and research methods of sociology will be examined. The primary goal is to create an awareness of and appreciation for the range of social and cultural variations throughout the United States and worldwide, stressing characteristics shared by all people. Readings and social science examples will be drawn from cultures around the world, including the pluralistic culture of the United States. Another focus of the class is to dispel common myths and stereotypes surrounding society and human behavior. 4C/4/0/0
Prerequisite(s): READ 0721 or READ 0724 or EAPP 0860 with a grade of “C” or better
