SOCI 1765 - Sociology of Crime and Deviance

This course offers an introduction to the sociological study of crime and deviance. Students will explore major types of crime – including violent, property, cyber, white-collar, and organized crime – and examine key sociological theories used to explain criminal behavior and societal reactions to crime and deviance. The course emphasizes how crime and deviance are shaped by social structures, power, and inequality. Students will critically examine the social implications of crime and justice, considering how legal systems, policies, and societal responses reflect and shape collective values in a diverse and evolving society. 3C/3/0/0
