EAPP 1590 - Academic Reading and Writing


5 Credits


This is an advanced level writing and reading course for multilingual learners of English who are fluent in conversational English but make multiple grammar errors when writing. Emphasis is on complex expository modes, grammatical accuracy in writing, grammar review, research methods, critical reading skills and revision and editing techniques. This course engages students in critical analysis and appreciation of works of philosophical historical, literary, aesthetic and cultural importance in the Humanities by integrating such works into essays and discussions while introducing citation and refining the academic language fluency of multilingual learners. Instruction focuses on expository and argumentative writing, appropriate, effective and accurate use of language, close reading, critical thinking, research strategies, information literacy, and documentation. In addition, students will expand their cultural competence as they analyze texts and engage in cross-cultural communication with instructors and peers. This is a required course.

Prerequisite(s): Appropriate assessment score or completion of EAPP 1460 , EAPP 1470 , and EAPP 1480  with a “C” or better
